Nestled in the hills of picturesque Litchfield, Connecticut is Wisdom House, the first novitiate of the Daughters of Wisdom in the USA and now a Spiritual Retreat and Conference Center. This was the setting of the Inter-continental meeting of North America, held on October 20-22, 2011, after the General Council had completed its Visitation of the two Provinces of Canada and the United States.
This sort of meeting was not new to the group, but was experienced rather as a continuation of something already begun. The Provincial Councils of these 2 entities have been having joint meetings for the past six years, either in Ottawa or in Litchfield, with the expressed aim of collaborating in various areas. Up until this time, cooperation in Vocation Promotion, Initial Formation and JPIC has been achieved.
“Widen the space of our tent” became the expressed theme of all those gathered together as they sought ways to further impart their gifts with one another for the sake of enhancing the mission of the Congregation. After three days of sharing, praying and discerning, the group arrived at five areas of collaboration, some of which are new and others of which are a deepening of what had been begun. Responsibility for the various areas was designated, emphasizing that Wisdom Spirituality would be integrated throughout all these domains.
The projects of collaboration are as follows:The bonds created among the Congregational Leadership of North America, some already existing and others being formed, will certainly continue to strengthen. These Sisters are convinced that despite the aging of both Provinces, they have a great deal to offer to the Congregation at this moment in history and there is much hope for the future.
Formative Communities Meeting of the “younger members” of both provinces in August 2012 Communication: a joint photo booklet, web site collaboration, continuation of communication among different groups of sisters JPIC: a specific focus on Ecology in view of a General Chapter orientation Administration: the orientations of the General Chapter and the Rule of Life, sharing of policies, processes
