In Search of a Home

So many people are looking for a home these days! When and where will they find a place to live? Are not these people a sign for us?
Jesus, Incarnate Wisdom, comes today, came yesterday and still will be coming. What is he looking for? He is always seeking a home. He does not know where he will dwell since he is at the mercy of those who deign to accept him. Free consent opens to sincere love…

In fact, in Montfort’s Christmas hymns that he composed for public catechesis to the poor peasants of his time, a double, yet same theme, seem recurrent: Jesus not only wishes to pitch his tent in our hearts, but he also earnestly invites us to dwell with him.  His greatest desire is to create a new home: Him in us and us in Him. « Let us sing, shepherd, for Jesus makes room for us in his heart » (Hymn 58, stanza 12)

In the works of Montfort, this theme of mutual love blends and mixes like  polyphonic music. The son of God says to the shepherd: “Prepare your heart, it is my dwelling place.” (Hymn 59, stanza. 9) At the same time, Montfort invites us with earnest, “let us give Him our souls…let us surrender our hearts – He yearns to make them His dwelling.”. (Hymn 64, stanza 8)

Mary, Wisdom’s “palace of honour” (Hymn 63, stanza 8) gives a wonderful picture of this mutual love. Wisdom invited herself fully into Mary because she had already consented to Love….Thus, Mary for us is the prototype of Mutual Love to which Wisdom is inviting us. She in us, us in Her

When contemplating the manger during this season, let us remember in wonder the ardent desire of the son of God who seems to need us, human beings, in order to be happy.  (LEW no.66)  “Here are our hearts, deign to make them your cradle and your dwelling place”. (Hymn 66, stanza 9) Let us invite the child God to make his dwelling into our hearts.
